THE COMPANY

Created in 2019, Bloom Biorenewables SA is a spin-off from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Bloom has developed the first technology to selectively convert the most abundant biopolymers on Earth – cellulose & lignin – into added-value chemical products. The vision is to enable an efficient utilisation of resources and promote the shift towards a green and circular society.

The company is currently running a pilot plant with a production capacity of 50 tons per year. The target market is the Flavours & Fragrances (F&F) industry with molecules that are of high-demand and value such as vanillin and eugenol. Beyond 2022, the company will increase capacity in steps and produce more aromatic molecules (such as phenols and BTX) for the chemical industry. The company has several industry leaders as customers, signed a strategic partnership with the Japanese conglomerate Yokogawa, and is backed by top investors (to-be-disclosed soon).
